Common questions

How do I add or change words?

Tap Edit and type the four numbers shown. This keeps children from changing words by accident. In edit mode you can add words, tap a word to change it, and move words around. Tap Done when you're finished.

How do I back up my words?

In edit mode, tap Backup. GibTalk makes a file with all your words and pictures and opens the share menu, so you can save it to your files or send it to yourself.

How do I move my words to a new device?

Make a backup on the old device and get the file onto the new one. Then, in edit mode, tap Restore and pick the file. Restore replaces all the words on the device, so back up first if there's anything there you want to keep.

What are templates?

Ready-made sets of words. In edit mode, tap Templates and pick one. Templates are added to your words; they don't replace them. See the templates.

You can also make your own word set on a computer with the template builder, then open it in GibTalk with Restore.

A word doesn't speak, or speaks in the wrong voice

GibTalk uses your device's text-to-speech. If a language doesn't speak, its voice may not be installed:

• Android: Settings → search for "Text-to-speech output" → open the settings of the preferred engine → install voice data for the language.
• iPhone and iPad: Settings → Accessibility → Spoken Content → Voices, and download a voice for the language.

Also check that the word's language is set correctly: in edit mode, tap the word and look at its language.

Where do the pictures come from?

Symbol search uses free symbol libraries (ARASAAC, Mulberry and Tawasol). You can also take a photo or pick one from your device. Symbol credits.

Does GibTalk collect my data?

No. There's no account, no ads and no analytics, and your words stay on your device. See the privacy policy.
